Manufacturing Process

From Raw Materials to Finished Products

At Design Italiano S.r.l., furniture manufacturing is managed through a structured process designed to maintain quality, consistency and control throughout every stage of production.

Each project may require different materials, techniques and manufacturing operations. Our process is therefore adapted to the characteristics of the individual product while following a clear production methodology.

Stages of production

  1. Assorted raw materials: solid wood, metal tubing, brass fittings and foam

    01 — Raw Material Sourcing

The manufacturing process begins with the careful selection and procurement of the materials required for each product.

Depending on the project, these may include wood and wood-based materials, metals, glass, natural stone, fabrics, leather, foams, hardware and other technical or decorative components.

Materials are sourced according to the specifications, aesthetic requirements and quality standards established for the product.

  2. Close-up of stacked solid-wood boards showing grain and edges

    02 — Incoming Material Inspection

Before entering production, incoming materials and components are inspected to verify their quality, dimensions, characteristics and conformity with the required specifications.

Only materials considered suitable for the intended application proceed to the production stage.

  3. Warehouse racking stocked with timber and wood-based panels

    03 — Material Storage & Management

Approved materials are properly stored and managed according to their individual characteristics.

Careful identification and organization of materials and production lots help maintain traceability and consistency throughout the manufacturing process.

  4. Designer sketching a chair on technical drawing paper beside material samples

    04 — Design, Engineering & Production Planning

Design concepts and technical specifications are translated into practical manufacturing requirements.

This stage may include the review and development of technical drawings, dimensions, construction details, materials, finishes, components and production methods, as well as prototyping when required.

Production is then planned according to the approved specifications.

  5. Wood panel being cut and sized on an automated CNC machine

    05 — Material Preparation

Raw materials are prepared for manufacturing through the processes appropriate to each product.

These may include cutting, sizing, machining, shaping, drilling, milling and other preparation operations, with continuous attention to dimensional accuracy and material optimization.

  6. CNC router machining a solid-wood furniture component

    06 — Component Manufacturing

Individual furniture components are manufactured using the appropriate production techniques.

Depending on the product, this may involve woodworking, metalworking, glass processing, stone processing and other specialized manufacturing operations.

Precision and quality controls are maintained throughout this stage to ensure that components conform to the approved specifications.

  7. Walnut furniture frame being joined with a power screwdriver

    07 — Assembly

Manufactured components are brought together and assembled using the appropriate construction methods, fittings and hardware.

Particular attention is given to structural integrity, alignment, dimensions, functionality and overall product stability.

  8. Spray gun applying lacquer to a walnut tabletop

    08 — Surface Finishing

Products and components undergo the required finishing processes according to their design specifications.

Depending on the material and desired appearance, these processes may include sanding, polishing, staining, lacquering, painting, coating, plating and other surface treatments.

Finishing is carefully controlled to achieve the required aesthetic appearance, texture and consistency.

  9. Upholsterer sewing bouclé fabric onto a sofa with an industrial sewing machine

    09 — Upholstery, Where Applicable

For products incorporating upholstered elements, the manufacturing process may include the preparation and installation of foams, fabrics, leather and other upholstery materials.

Cutting, sewing, padding and installation are carried out according to the approved design and technical requirements.

  10. Gloved hands inspecting the upholstered arm of a finished sofa

    10 — Final Quality Control

Before packaging, every finished product undergoes a final inspection.

Checks may include dimensions, construction, structural integrity, functionality, finishes, materials, aesthetic consistency and conformity with the client’s approved specifications and quality requirements.

Only products successfully completing the final quality-control process are released for packaging.

  11. Furniture wrapped in protective film with corner protectors on a wooden pallet

    11 — Packaging

Finished furniture is carefully protected and packaged according to the characteristics of the product and its transportation requirements.

Packaging solutions are designed to protect surfaces, finishes, edges and structural elements throughout handling, storage and transportation.

Products can also be identified and labelled according to the client’s requirements, supporting private-label and branded distribution programmes.

  12. Lorry loaded with palletised furniture cartons ready for delivery

    12 — Warehouse & Dispatch

Once packaged, finished products are prepared for storage, order consolidation and dispatch.

The final stage includes the organization of goods for shipment and delivery, completing a manufacturing process that begins with raw materials and concludes with finished furniture ready to reach the market under our client’s brand.

One Process. One Standard of Quality.

From the first material selection to the final packaged product, every stage is managed with the same objective: to transform our clients’ ideas into carefully manufactured furniture that represents their brand.
